Mass Effect[]

In 2183, after the attack on Eden Prime, the Council charged C-Sec to look into Saren Arterius and the Alliance’s charge of treason. Finding no evidence to support the matter, the officer in charge, Garrus Vakarian, still wanted to pursue the issue, until being told by Pallin to drop the case. Garrus, however, continued to investigate which eventually led to the Med Clinic in the Wards. Here, Garrus ambushed a group of thugs and saved Dr. Chloe Michel’s life, with the assistance of Commander Shepard. Dr. Michel offered her thanks and told them about the quarian who came to see her, Tali’Zorah nar Rayya. Garrus then asked to join Shepard’s team.

Detective Chellick was also running an investigation about weapons smuggling and how it was getting onto the Citadel. Shepard has the opportunity to ruin the operation, but is talked down by Chellick, who then asks for the Commander’s assistance. Chellick reveals the extent of the investigation and asks Shepard to assist. Should Shepard agree, and not blow the operation, then the Commander is given some mods as compensation. Should Shepard compromise the operation, Chellick is furious and says that the Commander blew months of undercover work and now they have to start from scratch.

C-Sec had also pulled aside a krogan named Urdnot Wrex, who was reported by Fist for making threats. C-Sec brought him to the C-Sec Academy «for a friendly chat.» Shepard has the option to have Wrex assist during the Commander’s investigation.

Walkthrough[]

Approach each of the keepers on the Citadel and scan them. You will receive credits and XP for each keeper scanned and a bonus after you have scanned all 21 keepers. You do not need to report back to Chorban.

Legendary Edition: There are still 21 scannable keepers, though only 20 are required to complete the assignment.

Abandoning the assignment is possible through dialogue with the scientist that originates it, and is +8 Paragon points and +XP. However, there are no corresponding Renegade points for completing the assignment. It is also possible to receive both rewards by scanning all of the keepers before returning to the scientist and choosing the Paragon dialog option.

To the right is a map of keeper locations. Below is a list of all 21 keepers throughout the Citadel. This list uses relative compass points.

Citadel Tower

1. Right next to Chorban, it’s the one you caught him trying to scan.
2. On the highest tier, near a door in the bottom-left (southwest) corner of the map.
3. Back on the middle tier, in an enclosed circular area to the east, past Rear Admiral Kahoku.
4. On your way out, in a corridor above and to the left of the stairs down to lower tier. This is in the northwest corner of the map.

Presidium

1. West side, near the elevator to the Citadel Tower, right next to an Avina terminal.
2. Northwest, near the Wards Access.
3. Enter the Embassy Lounge, continue through a door and on to an «external» balcony.
4. Again in the Embassy Lounge, to the northeast in an unnamed room containing computer terminals, human diplomats and an elcor.
5. In the Embassies, the volus and elcor office beside Ambassador Udina’s.
6. Southeast, by the entrance to the Consort’s Chambers.
7. Beside the stairway south of the Krogan Monument and west of the Consort’s Chambers.
8. In the upstairs storeroom of the Emporium.

Wards

1. Upper Wards, behind the Med Clinic, across from the Rapid Transit terminal.
2. Upper Wards, in the north-west corner of the Upper Markets between stalls (left of Expat’s stall).

Note: «Examining» and «scanning» are not the same. The keeper in front of the Citadel Tower continues to let you examine it after it has been scanned the first time (with a warning from the VI not to disturb the keepers). Preparation[]

Cerberus makes a play for control of the station, bringing a sizeable contingent of human troops with them. Phantoms make one of their first appearances here; they are particularly tricky opponents that are immune or resistant to several abilities and effects, so consider studying their page for tips on how to deal with them (bringing Liara for her Stasis power can be quite useful). Shields and barriers are the predominant enemy protection, and every once in a while there are some synthetic enemies to destroy. Overload is highly versatile here as it is on almost any mission.

Expect the full bag of Cerberus tricks on this mission including copious smoke screens, Guardians, Turrets, and shield generators/pylons. Using Sabotage to turn Shield Pylons and Turrets against enemies can be useful, and also consider equipping a weapon modded to see through smoke or walls.

Note: Due to his history with C-Sec, Garrus has a few unique comments on this mission if you bring him along.

Mass Effect 2[]

C-Sec undergoes radical restructuring between Saren’s attack on the Citadel in 2183 and 2185. In the aftermath of the decimation, humans now occupy many of the positions that were vacated due to casualties inflicted by Saren’s armada.

Under the authority of Executor Pallin, C-Sec tightened security to reduce the possibility of geth infiltration, instituting «no-fly» lists, prohibiting weapons and bio-amps, and even barring individuals from traveling in certain circumstances, no matter how unlikely the suspect.

Captain Bailey explains the situation to Commander Shepard and can assist the Commander during several different investigations and operations aboard the Citadel. Captain Bailey can also provide the Commander with an interrogation room to assist Thane in dealing with his son. Captain Bailey also can assist the Commander in dealing with Garrus’ past.

Galactic Standard Time

The inhabitants of Citadel Council Space utilize a standardized time system. This system is different from the Terran Coordinated Universal Time relied on by humans in that:

• A galactic standard day comprises 20 hours.
• Each hour comprises 100 minutes.
• Each minute comprises 100 seconds.
• Each second is half as long as a human second.

As a result, a twenty-hour galactic standard day is 15.7% longer than a standard twenty-four hour Terran Coordinated Universal day, which means it lasts 27 hours, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds in Earth-based time.

A galactic standard year is described as being an average of asari, salarian, and turian years and only 1.09 times longer than an Earth year. This means that a galactic standard year consists of 398.114 Earth days or 343.97 galactic standard days.

Trivia[]

• As the Mass Effect franchise pays homage to numerous sources fact and fiction, the Citadel — as one of its most iconic features — may have had several possible inspirations.
  • Its role as a space station which serves as the central hub for commerce and diplomacy for multiple species was possibly inspired by Babylon 5.
  • The Citadel may also draw inspiration from the city of Sigil from the Planescape Dungeons and Dragons setting. Attended to by enigmatic keepers without obvious motives, Sigil is considered the hub of the multiverse and is a vast melting pot for all cultures. Additionally, its strange, ring-shaped geometry (divided into Wards) means other parts of the city are constantly visible overhead: something it has in common with both the Presidium and the Wards of the Citadel.
• Galactic Standard Time strongly resembles Decimal Time, a representation of time of day briefly utilised in Revolutionary France. The only major difference between the two is that one GSD (Galactic Standard Day) includes twenty hours, whilst one day in Decimal Time only has ten. Thus a second in Decimal Time is only approximately 1.16 times as long as a Terran Coordinated Universal second.
• According to Mass Effect: Incursion, in 2183 there were 2,491,356 humans living on the Citadel.

В этом случае Шорбан, отпустив своих телохранителей, объяснит, что он вовсе не пытается убить Джалида. На самом деле они с Джалидом создали устройство, которое может предоставить информацию о хранителях. Уникальность изобретения заключается в том, что хранителей невозможно сканировать и тем более получить образцы для исследования, так как хранители сразу самоуничтожаются. А учитывая тот факт, что вот уже на протяжении нескольких веков нет никакой конкретной информации о хранителях, то данные, которые они могут получить о хранителях с помощью устройства, являются ценнейшим открытием. Но Джалид прикарманил эти данные себе, а Шорбан просто хочет их вернуть.

Раскаявшись в своём поведении и признав, что от значимости своего открытия они с Джалидом потеряли голову, Шорбан попросит Шепард(а) продолжить сканирование хранителей.

• Можно отказаться продолжать сканирование для получения 8 очков морали Героя, что автоматически приведёт к завершению задания Цитадель: Просканируйте хранителей.
• Можно согласиться продолжить сканирование, что не приводит к получению каких-либо очков морали (ни Героя, ни Отступника).

Если задание Цитадель: Просканируйте хранителей не было получено:

В этом случае стоит только заговорить с Шорбаном, он тут же наставит пистолет и потребует какие-то данные, о которых Джалид ничего не сообщал. Попытки решить дело мирным путём ни к чему не приведут, Шорбан не поверит не единому слову о том, что ни о каких данных никто и слыхом не слыхивал, и, позвав своих охранников, нападёт.

Потерпев поражение, Шорбан станет более сговорчивым и расскажет, что, оказывается, хитрюга Джалид утаил важную информацию и представил ситуацию в выгодном для себя свете. На самом деле компания, в которой они с Джалидом работают, разработала экспериментальный метод применения медицинских сканеров. Они с Джалидом увидели в этом большой потенциал, украли чертежи и разработали устройство для сканирования хранителей. Шорбан должен был сканировать хранителей, а Джалид — анализировать полученные данные, но в итоге Джалид решил оставить данные себе, а Шорбан, в свою очередь, хотел их просто вернуть. Но теперь он осознал, что был не прав, и готов пожертвовать данными, лишь бы остаться в живых.

Существует три возможных варианта развития событий:

• убить Шорбана для получения 9 очков морали Отступника;
• расспросить Шорбана о сканировании хранителей и согласиться/отказаться сканировать хранителей вместо него, после того как он предложит;
• отпустить Шорбана с миром, оставив в живых.

Цитадель: Тайна Джалида (поговорите с Джалидом)

При условии, что задание Цитадель: Просканируйте хранителей было принято, то по возвращении к Джалиду тот извинится за своё поведение и исчезнет в неизвестном направлении.

Если же при разговоре с Шорбаном задание Цитадель: Просканируйте хранителей всё ещё не было принято, то тогда в разговоре с Джалидом имеется несколько дополнительных опций:

• рассказать о краже на рабочем месте офицеру СБЦ, что приведёт к аресту Джалида;
• применить реплику Героя (требуется 7 уровень Обаяния) / Отступника (требуется 6 уровень Устрашения) и убедить Джалида вернуть украденное обратно в компанию — 8 очков Героя или 2 очка Отступника;
• применить шантаж и потребовать деньги за молчание — Шепард получит кредитов приблизительно в пять раз больше, чем за завершение задания без шантажа, но очков морали за данное решение не предусмотрено.

Также в том случае, если Джалид не был арестован, независимо от выбранного пути (шантаж, реплика Героя или Отступника) он предложит помогать ему в сканировании хранителей. Можно согласиться помочь ему (в журнале появится задание Цитадель: Просканируйте хранителей) или отказаться.

Независимо от выбранного варианта решения проблемы, по окончании разговора с Джалидом задание Цитадель: Опасения Джалида будет завершено.

Prerequisite: Citadel: Expose Saren

After your first visit with the Council, Ashley (or another companion) will take note of a salarian named Chorban bending over a keeper if you move close enough. Speak to him and he will tell you about his work and the grey area of legality it falls into. Eventually, he will give you the scanner and the assignment to scan all of the keepers in the accessible part of the Citadel.

If you spoke to Jahleed first and acquired the Citadel: Jahleed’s Fears assignment, then you can find Chorban in the lower markets. You can speak to him and get the scanner from him there. If you discourage Chorban from continuing his research, your last chance in acquiring this mission is by speaking to Jahleed after dealing with Chorban. The volus gives you his scanner, resulting in the slightly changed journal entry above.
