Gale enjoys a good laugh when he is with his best friend, Katniss. He can be easy to anger, and often it is Katniss who keeps it under control. He became angry when Madge Undersee said she wanted to look her best if she gets reaped. He became angry because she is more wealthy than most people in District 12 and doesn’t have to face what he and everyone else must.

Gale hated the Capitol more than most people, even in the worst districts. During his time in District 12, he frequently complained about the unjust political situation in Panem and the tyranny of the Capitol, in contrast to Katniss, who was taught by her mother to hold her tongue. Throughout the books, Gale mentions several times that he feels that a rebellion would be better than just doing what the Capitol wanted.

Unlike Katniss, Gale believed in the idea of victory at any cost. He clashed with her over the way the rebellion should be fought. Where she wanted to save as many lives as possible at the risk of defeat, he wanted them to sacrifice a few lives so that they can insure victory. Katniss tries to think in short-term, while Gale thinks in long-term, about how best to preserve life in Panem. This ruthlessness, combined with his hatred for the Capitol causes him to become a leading figure in the rebellion and to come up with new combat tactics while in District 13. Unfortunately, it is also this personality that eventually costs him his relationship with Katniss.

Gale often thinks in black and white terms, meaning something is either wrong or right and rarely does he see a grey area. He is angered that Katniss worries for her prep team when they are held captive as they are from the Capitol, and so are the ‘enemy’ even though they are relatively innocent.

Gale also had a very idealistic personality. When he believed in something that was being challenged he wouldn’t hesitate to fight for it. It is later said by Katniss that Gale’s fire, his passion, and personality, was very similar to her own; however, hers was always more controlled. He often accompanied Katniss when she did appearances as the Mockingjay, fighting when they came under attack. He also is the first to volunteer for the mission to save Peeta, though whether this is for Katniss or himself is not known.

Организаторы освещают Голодные игры, словно обычное спортивное состязание. Что самое жуткое, от участников требуют соответствующего поведения: улыбаться публике, рассказывать о том, как они счастливы выиграть в лотерею, и вообще держаться как претендентам на олимпийское золото.

По авторскому замыслу, Игры основаны на мифе о Минотавре, в котором дань Минотавру истолкована как демонстрация господства. Дескать: «Не забывайте, кто мы, а кто вы. Мы приходим, когда хотим, и берём всё, что нам нужно».

Отборправить

Называется Жатвой. Все потенциальные участники сгоняются на площадь, записываются на бумажках, и эти бумажки разыгрываются, как в Спортлото.

• Добровольцы — могут вызваться на замену трибутов. Как производится отбор из нескольких добровольцев, не раскрыто (для Д-12, откуда родом героиня, это не существенно).
• Добавочные записи. 12-летний участник записывается один раз. С каждым годом прибавляется по 1-й записи. Таким образом, создаётся перевес в сторону старших участников. И с каждым годом страшнее идти на эту процедуру.
• Тессер (от лат. tessera — талон или жетон) — талон на еду, взамен дополнительного комплекта записей на жеребьёвку. Количество не ограничено.
  • 14-летний участник, взяв четыре тессера, записывается три раза (1 плюс по 1 за каждый год после 12-ти) и сверх того четыре раза по столько же, итого пятнадцать.
  • Талоны годовые, и если постараться, то одного тессера почти хватит на год одному человеку. На деле их берут больше чем по одному на члена семьи.
• Если трибут побеждает, то его дистрикт получает крупную партию еды, а сам он освобождается от участия в последующих играх.

Сражениеправить

Ведётся на специально построенной для каждой игры арене, особенности которой до самой битвы держатся в тайне.

• Окружающая среда. Не всем везло так, как Китнисс, оказаться в умеренной, а потом в экваториальной среде: были и такие арены, на которых никто не сражался — все погибли от неблагоприятных условий. На 74-е Игры арену специально сделали поскучнее, чтобы можно было посмотреть на бои.
• Оружие. Зависит от фантазии организаторов — могут выдать тонну разнообразного холодняка, а могут — по дубинке на человека. Впрочем, огнестрела на известных Играх замечено вроде не было.
• Союзы. В конце выиграет только один, но до конца надо дожить, поэтому трибуты заключают временные перемирия. Элитным бойцам к тому же интересно сразиться между собой, а не со случайными неподготовленными заморенными детишками.
• Внешняя поддержка. Время от времени трибут может получать посылки от доброжелателей извне. От чего точно зависит доступность этой помощи, не раскрыто. Главная проблема — смехотворно высокая цена: даже не бедствующие капитолийцы-спонсоры отправляют только еду или лекарства (уникальный случай — отправка Финнику Одейру трезубца), а жители дистриктов вскладчину могут разве что буханку хлеба послать.
• Подлянки от организаторов. Т. к. стратегия «спрятаться и ждать, пока остальные гибнут» весьма эффективна, битва может стать вялотекущей и скучной. Когда такое происходит, операторы насылают стихийные бедствия, хищников и т. п., чтобы согнать кемперов с насиженных мест и столкнуть трибутов друг с другом.

Психологическое воздействиеправить

• Каждый житель бедных частей страны прошёл через пугающую процедуру отбора. Он выучил мысль о собственном бессилии.
  • Беднейшие при этом ломали себя, записываясь по нескольку раз ради талонов. Повзрослев, они посылают своих детей записываться по нескольку раз ради талонов. Ими выучена мысль о своём бессилии.
  • Местная элита, которой эти полугнилые объедки не нужны, возвышена над бедняками более чем просто богатством — нищие забирают себе почти всю вероятность участия. Эти приучены бояться и властей, и народа.
• Дистрикты-участники не в равном положении:
  • Привилегированные дистрикты свысока смотрят на остальных заморышей, не считая этих слабаков за людей.
  • Остальные смотрят на них, как на убийц-нелюдей.
• Все видят по телевизору, кто кого убил. При том, что население небольшое, это помнят долго.

Family

Rue was the eldest of six children. She had five younger siblings, all living in poverty in District 11.

She usually gave her food rations to her younger siblings, and foraged in the fields to provide more food for them. District 11 has very strict laws and Rue could be punished for helping her family in this way. On the Victory Tour (in Catching Fire), Katniss sees Rue’s family and her siblings look just like Rue. Her parents were also seen weeping. A man in the back whistles her four note tune, and started a small uprising. The man was shot shortly after. After Katniss sees the man get shot, she hears two more shots, which could possibly mean someone in the family was killed or wounded. At the Quarter Quell, Seeder assures Katniss that Rue’s family is safe.

Uniform

Book

The uniforms were brand new, and were the same for every tribute (except for the label on the side with the number of the tribute’s district). Tokens could be worn with them, as long as they couldn’t be used as an advantage to a tribute. Cinna hid Katniss’ mockingjay pin when he puts her uniform on her. The outfit was:

— a pair of simple fitted tawny trousers with many pockets.

— a light green shirt.

— a sturdy brown belt with a large buckle.

— a thin, hooded black jacket that falls down to the thighs and zips up the front.

— leather boots with narrow, grippy soles.

— skin-tight socks.

Film

The outfits remains largely the same as the book, but with different materials and styles, trending towards futuristic and functional. The film outfit was:

— a pair of loose, olive cargo pants with many pockets all over. The ankles are cuffed and tucked into the boot straps.

— a light cotton shirt. Girls were given v-necks and the boys were given crew-necks. The shirt was a lighter or darker shade of the jacket colour.

— a wide belt with a large buckle that wraps loosely around the jacket twice.

— a double lined jacket with multiple features, intended to be the most appealing part of the outfit. The inner layer was very warm and fitted, made of thick fleecy cotton. The jacket had a reflective tape of orange material around the hem. The outer shell was extremely thin, made of only a double layer of thin parachute nylon. Grey strips of reflective material ran down the arms, across the shoulders, and along the back and spine. There were drawstrings on the hood and waist, and a zipper up the front. The inner layer had tabs on the bottom that attach to the outer zipper so the inner layer can be zipped up. The jackets were a different color for each tribute.

Mentoring

Main article: Mentors

Each living victor from each district is given the task of mentoring the next tributes for the Games. If there is only one living victor, he/she will be the mentor for both tributes (e.g. Haymitch Abernathy mentors both Katniss and Peeta for the 74th and 75th Hunger Games). Any living victor, mentor or not, is required to visit the Capitol to watch the Games, visit the residents, and make Capitol TV cameos, but the mentors come alongside their respective District tributes and to watch the Games live. Mentors are very important as they give advice to their tributes, assist in the forming of alliances, politic for their tributes, secure sponsors, and control the sending of any gifts into the arena. A good clear minded mentor is imperative to the success of their tributes with very few exceptions.

Personality and traits

Rue had a gentle and kind nature. Her greatest joy in life was music, and she loved singing with the mockingjays at home. The mockingjays liked her and were used to her; a few were even her special friends because she was the one who sang a four-note melody that signaled the end of a work day out in the fields.

While in the arena, Rue showed excitement at the prospect of adventure — one character trait that Katniss noted differed her from Prim. Rue was clever and quite observant of her surroundings, noticing every piece of information she saw when spying on the Careers.

Being the eldest child in her family, Rue was a caretaker and always made sure her younger siblings were tended to. Similarly, she helped heal Katniss in the arena and willingly shared her supplies and knowledge. Once allied with Katniss, Rue put a great deal of trust in her, falling asleep quickly that night and agreeing to Katniss’s schemes.

Combat

Hovercrafts fulfill many combat functions. They are usually piloted and controlled by the Peacekeepers and military to keep the in line or to catch runaways and enemies of the Capitol, an example of this was the capture of Lavinia. Her companion, an unnamed boy, was killed. They have also been used as transports and as bombers.

During the first rebellion about 75 years before the start of the series, the rebels of District 13 captured some Capitol hovercrafts and used these as the nucleus for their own fleet, constructing new hovercrafts and upgrading the older models. The fleet was stationed in the Hangar and later deployed during the second rebellion. During the uprising in District 8 that began on the night that Peeta Mellark proposed to Katniss, hovercrafts were used to suppress the rebels by bombing their strongholds.

The Hunger Games

Prior to the beginning of the Hunger Games a hovercraft is used to transport each individual tribute with their stylist to their respective Launch Room. Hovercraft windows are closed to prevent tributes from obtaining an aerial view of the arena. Once the Games get underway, a hovercraft carrying a giant screen displays the nightly recaps of who died that day. As soon as a tribute’s death is confirmed, their body is recovered by hovercraft along with any weapons lodged in the body or held by the corpse, permanently removing these from the arena. They also drop gifts by parachute that were bought for the tributes with the money from their sponsors and chosen by their mentor. Since the gifts can appear very quickly, this suggests that hovercraft are constantly shadowing the tributes throughout the Games. Once a victor is declared, they are picked up by hovercraft and returned to the Training Center. This hovercraft is equipped with an operating room and carries a medical team to provide immediate medical care to treat any serious injuries that the victor(s) may have sustained.

In the movie, a single hovercraft transports all of the tributes to the arena at once. Hovercrafts are not seen removing bodies from the arena in The Hunger Games, though they do so in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

During the 75th Hunger Games, Katniss, Beetee, and Finnick Odair were rescued by hovercraft after the force field surrounding the arena was destroyed. They were taken to District 13.

In the film, Katniss is seen lying on the floor beside Beetee, after just being rescued. She gets up and takes a syringe before going through two doors to hear Plutarch, Finnick, and Haymitch discussing Peeta Mellark and his whereabouts. Katniss then bursts into the room and tries to attack them, but Haymitch quickly restrains her.

Управление в игре Голодные игры Майнкрафт

Управляй мужичком при помощи клавиш со стрелками. Прыгает он при нажатии кнопки со стрелкой вверх, а также при нажатии пробела. Чтобы задействовать тот или иной материал, нужно выбрать и захватить этот товар мышкой. Дальность способности мужичка действовать определяется длиной полоски, заканчивающейся плюсом, которая неизменно тянется от мужичка за твоей мышкой, куда бы ты ни повёл руку.

Для перехода на следующий уровень игры Голодные игры Майнкрафт тебе надо будет выполнить список заданий. Ознакомиться с ним ты можешь, нажав клавишу T. К сожалению, весь список (как и все подсказки в игре) составлен на английском языке, из-за чего не всегда бывает просто понять, что же именно подразумевается в качестве задания уровня. Впрочем, переводчик или словарь тебе в помощь – заодно подтянешь и уровень английского.

Обрати внимание, что в списке дел есть те, что отмечены зелёным цветом (напротив них написано COMPLITED!) и те, что написаны бордовым (напротив них написано INCOMPLITED). Разумеется, такое деление ты увидишь, только если уже успел что-то сделать, находясь на уровне, ведь зелёным цветом отмечены как раз таки выполненные задания

That year, for the first time ever, two tributes were allowed to win, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. The two tributes were playing star-crossed lovers, each not wanting to kill the other. Despite Peeta pleading to Katniss to kill him after the Gamemakers stated that there would again only be one winner, she organized a plan to eat poisonous nightlock berries, to kill both of them, knowing the Capitol would rather have two victors than none. The Gamemakers, afraid of having no victor and humiliating the Capitol, ended the Games promptly, allowing two winners for the first time. However, this was seen as an act of rebellion towards the Capitol. Seneca Crane, the Head Gamemaker, was executed shortly after allowing this. President Snow became furious with Katniss after the Games ended due to her plan.

Trivia

• Rue received her name from a small mountain flower (Ruta graveolens), just as Katniss received her name from a waterside plant, and Prim received her name from a bush (Primrose bush). Symbolically, both Ruta graveolens and primrose blossoms close at night.
• ‘Rue’ is also a word meaning repentance or regret.
• There was some backlash from the public at the casting of Amandla Stenberg, an African American actress, when it was first announced, but Stenberg merely responded that she was glad to be a part of the film.
• In the promotional posters, almost every character is looking left, with the exception of Katniss (who is looking right) and Rue (who faces left but is looking down).
• Rue foraged for food in the Meadows before the Games, which is a very serious offense in District 11.
• If Katniss had not volunteered for her sister, Prim, there would have been at least two 12 year old girls participating in the 74th Hunger Games from the poorer districts.
• She was the shortest female tribute in her Games.
• In the film, she received the lowest number of odds to win the games, 60-1, possibly due to her height.
• Her odds of winning are shown to change from 60-1 to 7-1 in the film.
• At the start of the Games, Rue runs away from the Cornucopia, as she tells Katniss while looking at Rue’s supplies.
• Rue was the only 12 year old in the 74th Hunger Games that survived after the bloodbath, despite being the tribute with the lowest odds.
• Rue trusted Katniss because of her mockingjay pin.
• In the book, Rue is the one to show Katniss the mockingjay signal, but in the film, it is Katniss that shows Rue.
• Rue reminds Katniss of Prim. Both Rue’s and Prim’s deaths heavily affected Katniss.
